The waste of flowers- is a way for Elven Bird to sing of the ephemeral substance of both the natural and the human inhabited world. In this context, picking up a flower can be a metaphor for ending a life, and all is precious to the elves and to spiritual people as well... so thread lightly, as that known poem says.
